I've been reading Annie Dillard's book, For the Time Being. This is the first of her books I've ever read and it won't be the last. She has a knack for viewing God, the world, nature, each other and ourselves in some very unique ways.
In her book she quotes Augustine telling a group of people: "We are talking about God. What wonder is it that you do not understand? If you do understand, then it is not God."

Annie Dillard is amazing, she doesn't try to give the simple answers to the big questions - would recomend all of her books, Holy The Firm and Pilgram at Tinker Creek in many ways build up to what she says in For The Time Being, if you haven't read those you would enjoy them.
