Sounds Fishy To Me!
Amazing as it sounds, the New York Times ran a story this week titled, "Unexpected Evolution of a Fish Out of Water." As they say in the article: "This is the story of two small, plastic, adhesive plaques and all that came forth and multiplied after them: the Jesus fish and the Darwin fish."

You Mean Our Kids Won't Become Satan Worshipers After All?
I have long thought the uproar about Harry Potter in Christian circles was unfounded. It looks like at least one church has changed it's tune! Check out this article in the Colorado Springs Gazette titled, "Bringing Harry Potter to Church." Dr. Dobson is probably turning over in his grave. Oh wait, I guess he's not dead yet . . .

The Highway of The Beast
According to this article in the Washington Times, "the sign of the beast may become a sign of times past as lawmakers, government officials and Christian educators work to remove the configuration 666 from telephone prefixes and highway signs." Check it out!

S'Wonderful, S'Marvelous, Surreal
Okay, on my list of "Five Guilty Pleasures" (see below) I should have added the WB show, The Surreal Life. I actually have not watched the show all that faithfully but I have seen one full episode and part of another. What I saw on last Thursday's episode was fascinating. If you want to know more, Christine Segher's article on Thunderstruck titled, "Finding Redemption on the "Surreal Life" will give you the gory details. Suffice it to say, who would have thought Hammer would be leading Vince Neil of Motley Crue fame into an encounter with God?

Hurt'n For Cash
I can't say I'm a huge Johnny Cash fan like some folks are, but he's always been an artist I have admired. Last Saturday I happened to run across the video for his latest song, the Nine Inch Nails tune, "Hurt." If you haven't seen it you should check it out. And be sure to watch the entire video because I think the best sections (and the ones that most directly reflect his faith) are towards the end. It is powerful and touching all at the same time. Amazing.

Here's At Least One Thing We Can Learn From Our Muslim Friends!
According to Reuters, the nation of Qatar (pronounced "cutter") has "imported 1,000 frequency jammers to block mobile phone transmissions that disrupt prayers and sermons in the Gulf state's mosques." I'd pay a hundred dollars to see this device installed in my church!

Did You Hear The President's Remarks On Saturday?
In the wake of the space shuttle Columbia tragedy, President Bush addressed the nation. I've seen an excerpt or two on the news and was impressed with their sensitivity and the spirituality. My favorite section came toward the end when he said, "The same Creator who names the stars also knows the names of the seven souls we mourn today. The crew of the shuttle Columbia did not return safely to Earth; yet we can pray that all are safely home." If you'd like to read the entire transcript, you can find it here at the official White House Website.
