Jesus and Jihad

One of the most insightful columnists on the international scene is Nicholas Kristof (a native of my own state of Oregon, by the way) of the New York Times. In his most recent column, Jesus and Jihad, Kristof provides a critique of Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkin's most recent bestseller, Glorious Appearing.

Kristof says, "It's disconcerting to find ethnic cleansing celebrated as the height of piety." But he is also careful to mention that he does not want to "mock anyone's religious beliefs."

"I often write about religion precisely because faith has a vast impact on society. Since I've praised the work that evangelicals do in the third world (Christian aid groups are being particularly helpful in Sudan, at a time when most of the world has done nothing about the genocide there), I also feel a responsibility to protest intolerance at home."

I especially like his concluding comment - but you'll have to link to the article to find out what he says!
